Why are picket fences so popular in Hialeah front yards?
Hialeah limits fences along the front lot line to four feet, so front fences here are about marking the property and keeping kids and dogs in, not privacy. An open picket design looks clean, lets air and light through, and leaves the house visible from the street. Aluminum is the low-upkeep version; steel and iron give a heavier, more decorative look.
Aluminum or iron?
- Aluminum does not rust, weighs less and keeps its powder-coat finish with little care. It is our usual suggestion.
- Steel or wrought iron is stronger and suits custom scrollwork, but needs its coating touched up to stop rust in the humidity.
How are they built for the permit?
Hialeah publishes a standard detail for iron picket fences up to six feet: posts at least 2 by 2 inches in 14-gauge steel (or 2¼-inch pipe), set at least 24 inches into concrete footings 10 inches wide and 30 inches deep. Manufactured aluminum or metal systems need signed and sealed details from a design professional. We submit whichever applies.
What does an aluminum or iron fence cost?
As of October 2026, Angi's national guide lists aluminum at about $17 to $90 per linear foot installed and wrought iron at about $25 to $55. HomeGuide lists aluminum at $25 to $75 and wrought iron at $50 to $85. A short front-yard run with a walk gate and a rolling driveway gate is priced as one package in your written quote.
Can it double as a pool barrier?
Yes, if it is built for it. Hialeah's fence requirements say pool-barrier iron picket fences have no intermediate rails and no more than 4 inches between pickets. See pool fences.
